Oh - diarrhoea

Wednesday

What's behind the constant "I can't hold it back!" moments when you keep going in and out of the toilet, with the twisting pain around the tummy area and cold sweats trickling down you face.

Tummy pain.... And diarrhoea (diarrhea US).

These are important terms when dealing with Lao Sai (stool flowing out)

Gastroenteritis: inflammation of the stomach and intestines
Diarrhoea: Passing loose stool more than 3 times in 24 hours
Dysentery: Passing loose stool accompanied by blood and mucous and extreme pain due to the invasion of the gut wall (ulcerated)
Enterocolitis: inflammation of the small intestines and colon.

Usually caused by bacteria like E coli, Salmonella, Shigella (causes dysentery), Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Yersinia enterolitica.. etc... (directly copied from notes)

Becareful of what you eat... It's all about food:)

I wonder why dental students need this...

Maybe... we'll learn to make sure that our chairs won't get dirty?

It must be the bananas

Tuesday

Been eating a lot of bananas lately. And made some banana fritters yesterday due to sudden craving. I used pisang emas and dipped it in batter and fried it. Not bad considering it was my first attempt in making it!

*Info: This type of banana cannot be used to make banana milkshake. You must use cavendish bananas (or the big ang moh-ish bananas) to make it. Don't ask me why. It is what it is. You can experiment to make pisang emas milkshake tho...

And lol... I was announced winner of the arm wrestling competition for my category. Didn't expect that. Joined in just for fun, to raise funds for Gym Club... Ended up discovering weird talent. Maybe I can extract teeth effortlessly...? *snickers*

CSU tomorrow...

Exam in 13 days.

Been doing nothing lately

Sunday

Woke up at 4pm today. This is BAD!

Did nothing these past few days. Except accompanying Chia Sin to go to Sunway yesterday and going to church...

On Friday, I went to find my dad for dinner. Alone again...asked Chia Sin but she went out with her other friends... Luckily I didn't have to go back alone... Phew... I'd be soooo scared!! Had crabs... But I think the crab wasn't cooked properly... Got allergic reaction:(

And on Thurs, I got elected as House Design/PR personnel. Did some designing of the logo just now.. I think it'll be the ugliest logo in IMU history... Sure lose to the pro ppl.. e.g. Jade.

I think I need to start studying... Because everyone are already hitting the books.. And while I am kinda anticipating Wolverine on Thurs...

How do you guys study???

The Spread all day dining

Thursday

I dislike buffets because you will always try to pig it out. And then suffer from bloatedness. Which can be killing.

However, last night, I went to this place in The Gardens Hotel. This is a discovery. Really.

Photobucket

This place is called The Spread all day dining. And it serves an international spread. The environment is bright and spacey. And I don't think it is well known to the public. I asked the hostess and she said that the restaurant is opened a year ago!

Photobucket

Price for lunch is RM85nett, dinner RM95nett. But, I went there thanks to Chia Sin's dad. His treat:)

Photobucket

Yea. The spread was nice. Wanted to try ALL the food but didn't manage to.

Had loads of food.
The spread...

Photobucket

shashimi

Photobucket

First off.. canapé

I had seven different types of these. They made sure portion was small so that you can try more and more stuff. Excellent!

Photobucket

The best thing is the sashimi. Very very very fresh. I took some salmon, tuna, butterfish. I didn't have to really chew. It just melted in my mouth. I could actually taste the butter taste of the butterfish. And I never knew salmon could ever ever taste so wonderful. Tuna is just *drooools*

Photobucket

I had the sashimi twice. I had the octopus too. The sashimi had no hint of foulness, which is very rare to find. Nice!

Then I had a plate of assorted cooked seafood. Unlike some places, sometimes grilled stuff end up rock solid but this was just nice:) and portion was just right. Tender grilled salmon... should have taken more...

Photobucket

Then I had a lotus root with chicken soup.. I liked it because the chicken meat is boneless and I drank every last drop of it.

Photobucket

Then I had roasted Lamb Leg with rosemary sauce.. Yum yum.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The local delicacies... I shouldn't have filled my stomach with these. Should have taken more satays.. Which was delicous...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Then there was this tau fu fah... it was so smooth that it flowed through my teeth. No chewing needed! Reminiscence.... wahhhh....

Photobucket

I had 3 gui ling gaos... with pure honey.

Photobucket

I had jellies, puddings, chocolate mousse and pralines...

Photobucket

I had this wonderful black sesame ice cream...

Photobucket

There were so many other things that I did not manage to eat. There are waffles, cotton candies, chicken rice, nasi briyani, scallops, lobsters, abalone, oysters, curry mee, stews, salads, pastas, cheeses, and so much more...

I don't mind going there again...(not soon though.. and if i go there at a cheaper price..I'm a cheapo) The price is up to its standards. Because of the quality, the food value is higher, which makes eating there worth it.

The thing about this buffet is you won't mind eating the same things again.. Because it's that nice! (some other places, you bite once and you'll abandon that food forever)

Plus, service is great! They fold your napkins everytime you leave your table to get food. And they keep refilling your drinks. Free flow of Ice lemon tea/sprite/coke. Coffee is chargable.

I give:

Service:8/10
Food:8/10
Variety:7/10
Price:7/10
Ambience7.5/10
Average:7.5/10

Location? Level 6 of The Gardens Hotel. Take the lift.

This is a review worth writing. And if suddenly it becomes famous, it can be partly due to this post.

But let's hope that this kind of experience will be to every visitor there.

************************

By the way, if you are want to eat it at a cheaper price, you can. I managed to ask the waiter if there are any and there is!

It's called early bird special. However, you can only dine an allocated time only.

Lunch is 11.30am to 1pm. Dinner is 6pm to 8pm.

Promotion goes like this.

You get:

20% off if you go in a group of 4
30% off if you go in a group of 6
40% off if you go in a group of 8
50% off if you go in a group of 10 (max 20)

Please... no more buffet

Thursday

*pukes*

I really really really cannot stand buffets!

I'd rather have ala carte. Seriously. I don't think I'll go one anytime soon. This is 2 buffets in less than 24 hours. Can die.

Yesterday, I ate from 6 to 10 pm, 4 hours of food nonstop. Today, ate again... Really getting sick already. Felt like food is trying to escape my stomach.

I won't go Jogoya anytime soon. Bluek!

And coincedentally, the PBL I had this morning discussed about good dietary habits. And one of them is to not OVEREAT.

Why?

This will cause work overload to your digestive system. This stress can eventually lead to ORGAN FAILURE. So.. next time, eat just the right amount of food.

Will write a review on the buffet last night.

Toodles.. *bloated*

Stupid moodswings

Wednesday

Won't be sleeping tonight. Need to do my PBL and refind my sources for report. Computer stopped again..

Just had buffet dinner with Chia Sin. Will elaborate on that another day. Now, time to do work. Stomach is too full to sleep.

Yea, I had a bad day today. Mixed feelings. And I blame... PMS!

This is the second time PMS affected my mood. I have never had PMSes before this, and I prayed to God that I wanted to experience the unexplainable PMS.

Finally, I got my prayers answered and I think I can explain PMS now.

PMS: it is an event that may occur during, before or after your menstruation period where your emotional threshold is lowered by a significant amount. However, if the stimulus does not exceed the threshold, there will be no PMSes. It can be aggravated by stress and lack of sleep. PMS is also something that can cause you to be irrational for a bit, and you don't want to listen to other people because you can't and just don't want to. After the PMS period, you will return to the normal state, and think that your actions during the PMS period is just plain rubbish. However, in some cases, some may experience PMSes for a long duration, some more frequent than others and some very rarely. Fortunately, PMSes can be reversed by doing somethings that keeps the mind off, or when the person is treated like a princess.

Now, I have to pray to God again to remove PMS from my life. Thankfully it only affected half of my day...

Sigh.. let's not talk about the stimulus. I'll get upset... Just keeping my mind off~

Free morning

Tuesday

Today is one of the rare times that my mornings would be free. Woke up this morning and made

YUM...

Banana milkshake:)

It was nice!! Got a big banana and sliced it and kept in the freezer last night. And all I had to do is to put them in the blender and add some low fat milk...

One word...

Satisfying. Plus, it was yummy, and had an energy boosting effect: Potassium!!

Then, I continued my report. And decided to make garlic bread: Had made garlic butter earlier and spread it on my whole wheat bread and then it goes into the oven...

Ahhh... nice...

This is what I do when I am free... Make food and eat eat eat.

I have always been a snacker... So to counter this problem, I chose to buy something over chocolate to snack on.

Ya, I got a long stick of celery to chew on while I did my report this morning. Healthy and makes me snack less (lols!).

That was morning time...

********************

Now, I have to do my PBL on good oral and dietary habits. This system just had to deal with FOOD!!! Gastric motility definitely will increase...

ok.. back to my report... 600 more words to go...*celery?*

Will change the header soon because I suddenly changed the size of the wrapper. Probably will do that after I finish my report and PBL.

and.. Su Anne and Pei San discovered my blog... Ooops! Hi??

Completed my first complete denture.

Monday

Finally realized that I used the "we-are-not-supposed-to-use" acrylic base. Heard that it's more $$ and easier to manipulate. Hehehe.. But its colour is quite weird. I call it the anaemic denture. It's a little too pale. Even the roots can be seen through.

And yup. It's a LOT of work coming down to ONE denture. Well, of course us being newbies to making these... It's a great accomplishment!!

Here are what my friends and I had to go through almost everyday to do ONE denture(somedays are for cavity prep, mounting, restorations, fissure sealants and all sorts).

Firstly, we had to see the 'patient' and in my case, his name is Ewan. He is edentulous (monge=no teeth) and he wants a denture!

Photobucket
I have to make sure I use the right stock tray so that it fits his mouth. The red thing is wax, it's used to extend the tray so that the impression material can take the sulcus and the posterior teeth etc.

Primary impression using alginate material.

Photobucket

*Due to my very lao-beh (poor) skills, I had to redo the impression taking more than 10 times.

Plus, look at the mess... Poor Ewan

After that, we say bye bye to Ewan and the impression is disinfected and sent to the lab to get a stone model of the impression so that we can do a more fitted tray to get the secondary impression.

Photobucket

The blue thing is what we call, SPECIAL TRAY. Specially made to fit your mouth:)

The impression material for the secondary impression is Zinc oxide eugenol, which is used to take details of your mouth so that we can have the MASTER CAST to work on. Your denture will follow your master cast. (before reaching the master cast part, you'll need to do beading and boxing, which you don't need to know)

After having the master cast, we use a light cured material to be the base.

Photobucket

Nice blue light O.O *it's cured for 5 minutes

Photobucket

Then the occlusal rim is put on the base and it's measured and trimmed and patched and trimmed and measured and trimmed till we get it right.

Photobucket

This is MY articulator:P

Photobucket

This part requires loads of patience, MMR! The occlusal rim MUST be parallel to the alar-tragus line and the interpupilary line. This is so that the denture will function normally when the person is moving the mouth. And so that it won't make you look weird.

After that, you do the facebow thing (which we didn't because the lecturers are the ones who adjusts it, and we only have 2 to share with the whole batch)

*did you know that the facebow thing caused a havoc among my friends who used it first?? Some had to trim their model and some had to remount many many times!! I was slow that time because I was sick the previous week so production was slower (explains why there aren't many pics at this time)

Using the facebow, we got to mount the cast on the articulator!! I used the fast acting plaster, using the catalyst because there were many waiting to use the facebow. I did mine in less than 10 minutes! Yay!! But it was horrendous:(

Photobucket

Moving on... It was time to mount the teeth!!!

Photobucket

I was the first to do it, while others were busy doing amalgam. Me, mounting the teeth one by one all by myself without guidance (just by recall of what I saw in the demo), was so relaxed and did it with no pressure around.. What a feeling. I didn't do fillings yet because I didn't have teeth to work on, so I worked on fake teeth:)

So after it was done, with adjustings here and there and making sure the height was right, the incisal pin touches, and the right cusp is interdigitating with the right fossa.... Loads to consider.

Photobucket

Then after the occlusion was right, it gets a green light and there begins wax work, to improve the looks of the future denture. It needed some ridges, some depressions to look like the real thing. There is this fun thing called chip syringe that is used to blow fire to your wax work. But I rather flame it:P

After that, investing!! Put the model in the brass flask

Photobucket

Always remember to put vaseline at the right places.

Photobucket

and let it stay in the hydraulics pump thing.

Photobucket

Then, it goes for dewaxing to remove the wax and the base. At this point.. Remember to apply cromosil cold mould seal *embarrasing moment in the lab due to simply calling things with weird names*

Photobucket

Then it goes for packing and then curing for a whole night. Then the next day, you deflask it.

And mine... tragedy struck when I deflasked it..

My model...*creee-aaak*

It broke into pieces:(

Photobucket

*my heart cracked when I saw it crack*

Photobucket

But then, I went on to stick my 4 pieced model on the articulator and continued to to selective grinding till my fingers got blue..

And when the incisal pin touched the floor, I went on to trim the acrylic denture!!!

After trying to make it look nice, using acrylic bur, sandpaper, penknife, lecron, tapered fissure bur... I went to POLISH *shine*

Photobucket

Yea.. Another note, the polishing machine is DANGEROUS. And painful... Kinda polished my fingers a bit... Will try to polish my nails...

Yea... I have one more thing to finish for my denture.. That is... Issueing the denture to Ewan:)

**********

For now, I am waiting for my turn to bath and will continue on my Community Oral Health report... munching on these:P

Third Year.. Blogging

Sunday

Today is 19/04/09. I wrote in my previous blog that I would not blog anymore and that it was my final post. Well, I stopped, for more than 3.5 months.

Surprised that I returned? But I guess nobody would know that I'm back in the blogosphere..yet..

Actually, I have set up a blog for the MEDT109 orientation, yea, so I was technically blogging but not for me. And yea, response there was 'good'. Lol~ Don't have to explain.

Yup, this is a new blog which I intend to keep. I like the template I made:)

This time, I shall control my blogging. And use it in a wiser way.

So toodles... I shall blog about my dental life here soon on drilling and denture making!

See ya~

About me

Me?

I am a 2nd year dental student in International Medical University (IMU).

I began blogging in April 2007 and tried to stop blogging many many times. My longest hiatus from blogging was about 3 months and 18 days (stopped 1st Jan 09 and just begun today).

I love many things: family, friends, food, fun... etc (it's hard to list all down)

This will be a very different kind of blog. Very, very different unique... Everything is new now, I've resetted the counter so it's beginning count from today..

:D

Tomorrow is my 2nd blogversary~
